It has emerged over the last few hours that a new plan, dubbed the ‘Malthouse Compromise’ in honour of one of the main proponents, the Housing Minister, Kit Malthouse, has offered up a new solution to get Brexiteer MPs on board the Withdrawal agreement train. Remainer MP Nicky Morgan and Leavers such as Jacob Rees-Mogg and Steve Baker have all pledged some allegiance to the new proposal, which comes as the ERG rejected the Brady amendment yesterday, which would rule out the backstop. Whether this new plan can come into play in the Commons later today is another issue altogether, as John Bercfow has much power over the amendments chosen.
