The Amended Week

Boris Johnson

This week is that of numerous amendments, as MPs attempt to ‘take control’ of the Brexit process and seize it from the Government. This may well happen as the Cooper-Boles amendment comes into play, but the Speaker is the man with the power. He has to decide which amendments to allow votes on that keeps inside the time deadline, with many put forward and only Tuesday afternoon and evening for MPs to vote. John Bercow has been criticised incessantly by many Tories for being biased in his choosing for the Commons, but his judgement may prove vital in in deciding the fate of the Graham Brady amendment, to get rid of the backstop in the Withdrawal Agreement and the Andrew Murrison one to put a time limit on the detested backstop.

Another big week ahead, Gerry says…
