The former Chancellor George Osborne has said that he regrets some of the mistakes he made that led to the Brexit vote in 2016. Osborne has heavily criticised during the campaign for ‘scaremongering’, threatening a ‘punishment budget’ as he expected a large economic hit after the vote took place. Speaking on Newsnight, the Evening Standard editor said that the immigration targets that the Cameron government set were overly optimistic and that they didn’t explain the benefits of EU membership.
