After Dame Laura Cox’s scathing report on the conditions faced by Parliamentary staff came out yesterday, the Speaker John Bercow has come under intense pressure to resign today from largely Conservative backbenchers. Bercow, who been accused of bullying junior staff, is unpopular with Tories and liked mainly by Labour MPs, with Maria Miller today calling for him to go. Bercow had said at the time of his inception as Speaker in 2009 hat he would resign earlier this year, but has failed to do so and wants to stay in for the long term.
