The International Development Secretary, Penny Mordaunt, has refused to explicitly back Theresa May’s Chequers proposal, also encouraging the government not to make any more concessions to the EU. Speaking to a collection of journalists and development officials, the Brexit-supporting minister claimed that she wasn’t giving a ‘running commentary’ on the negotiations and was in support of the PM for now, although this refusal to back her plans would put that statement in doubt.
